How to Verify BIS Hallmarked Gold Online: The 6-Digit HUID Code Guide

Executive SummaryThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) enforces mandatory 6-digit Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) codes across precious metal articles. This guide outlines how buyers can verify the authenticity, weight, and assay certification of their gold using the official BIS Care application.
Research & Analysis: IPMEX Bullion Research Desk

01.Understanding the HUID Security System

To prevent carat manipulation and counterfeit stamping, the Bureau of Indian Standards mandated **Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID)** numbers.

A HUID code is an exclusive **6-digit alphanumeric identifier** laser-engraved onto each precious metal piece at an authorized Assaying & Hallmarking Centre (AHC). The identifier is registered in the central BIS database prior to market distribution.

02.The Three Mandatory BIS Hallmark Marks

Under current Indian standards, verified hallmarked gold exhibits three distinct laser-engraved marks:

SymbolIdentification ComponentVerification Significance
BIS LogoTriangular Standard MarkCertifies conformity to Bureau of Indian Standards specifications.
Purity MarkFineness Number (e.g. 24K999 or 22K916)Identifies the precise proportion of pure gold per thousand parts.
6-Digit HUIDAlphanumeric Code (e.g. AB1234)Unique database tracking code linking the item to its assaying facility and timestamp.
Legacy Stamping Warning
Older hallmarking systems featuring four separate stamps (including custom jeweler logos without a 6-digit alphanumeric code) are non-compliant with current standards and cannot be validated in the central government database.

03.Step-by-Step Verification Using the BIS Care App

Authentication requires four steps using a standard smartphone:

1. **Install Application**: Download the official **BIS Care App** published by the Bureau of Indian Standards from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. 2. **Access Verification Tool**: Navigate to the **"Verify HUID"** module on the main interface. 3. **Input Code**: Enter the 6-character alphanumeric code engraved on the metal or printed on your tax invoice. 4. **Review Registry Data**: The registry will display: - Assaying & Hallmarking Centre (AHC) registration code - Article classification (Coin, Bar, Pendant) - Certified purity (24K - 999.9) - Date of hallmarking

The details retrieved from the registry must match the physical item and tax invoice.

04.The BullionKart Quality Benchmark

All products listed on the BullionKart Catalog are delivered with official assay certificates certifying 999.9 fineness for gold and 999 fineness for silver. Each shipment is dispatched via secured logistics providers with 100% door-to-door transit insurance.
